Jordy and Em South America Trip!

Our second stop on the Galapagos gave us another amazing few days!

We went on a “Highland Tour” of Santa Cruz, visiting some inland locations to mix it up from all our time on the coast! We visited “Los Gemelos” which translates to “The Twins”, two huge volcanic craters created when lava tunnels from Santa Cruz’s volcanoes collapsed. We also visited El Chato Ranch, which is a sanctuary for Galapagos giant tortoises and home to several intact lava tunnels which we could explore!

We took a water taxi from the main pier to “Las Grietas”, a natural pool between two rock cliffs where we went snorkelling.

On our last morning we walked through the national park to Tortuga Bay, which included two beautiful beaches. Unfortunately, despite it’s name meaning “Turtle Bay”, we only had two very brief and very distant turtle sightings. We did, however, have more human sightings here than anywhere else since arriving on Galapagos!

Aside from day trips and exploring the island, we loved exploring the main town of Puerto Ayora and saying hello to its many resident sea lions! The town is beautiful and we were lucky enough to be staying very centrally, so it was nice just wandering around.

Our next stop is our final island in the Galapagos, San Cristobal!
