Isla Isabela, Galapagos Islands

The first island on our trip to the Galapagos! We were lucky enough to spend three days on Isabela Island, the largest island by landmass but one of the smallest inhabited islands by population in the Galapagos.

Sorry for the incoming spam, we can’t narrow down the photos/videos that we want to share!

On our first day we went to a free snorkelling spot, Concha de Perla, which was walking distance from the main town of Puerto Villamil. We were lucky enough to see so much wildlife on our very first day! There were baby sea lions playing on the deck, lots of parrot fish and even some sea turtles! On our walk through town we also spotted some flamingos for the first time!

On our second day we did a group tour to “Los Tuneles”, another part of Isabela Island accessible by a 45 minute speed boat ride. We explored some of the very unique Galapagos landscapes, with lots of volcanic rock formations and tunnels/rock pools filled with turtles, sharks and fish. We then went snorkelling and saw even more turtles, as well as several types of sharks and a seahorse!

On our last full day on Isabela we decided to hire bikes and ride through part of the National Park. Fun fact from one of our taxi drivers, the Galapagos Islands are made up of 97% National Park and only 3% is privately owned land! Our very lucky find on this day was several huge Galapagos tortoises, some marine iguanas and beautiful views over Isabela Island!

Up close with giant Galapagos tortoises!

We could not have asked for a better first few days on the Galapagos, it even better than we could have imagined. Very excited for our next stop, Santa Cruz Island.
