From Rio we travelled south to Sao Paolo where we spent four days exploring the city!

We spent a morning exploring Parque Ibirapuera, the large “Central Park” equivalent in Sao Paolo. We went on a weekend, and it was incredible how many people were in the park walking, running and cycling. The views of the lake with the city in the background were particularly reminiscent of Central Park in New York!

In the centre of the city there is a stretch of road called Minhocão which functions as a normal street on weekdays, but closes on the weekend so that you can walk along it and admire the surrounding art on the buildings. There were also sections set up with beanbags and chess boards where people were relaxing and enjoying the nice weather!

We had some rainy weather in Sao Paolo, so we decided to visit MASP, the Museum of Art Sao Paolo. The highlight was the portrait room, where all of the art is displayed on clear easels so that you can see the artwork behind it as well. The art is displayed from most modern at the front, working back to the oldest pieces in the collection at the back of the gallery.

We stayed in the area of Pinheiros, which is known for its street art. In particular Pinheiros is famous for an area called “Beco de Batman” which has many murals as well as bars, restaurants and market stalls. We spent some time exploring this area, and Jordy and Jake went on a guided walking tour to give more context to some of the art and learn about the local artists.

Sao Paolo was our last stop with Jake before he flies to the US to continue his holiday! From Sao Paolo we continue further south in Brazil to Florianopolis.
