Buenos Aires

After Patagonia we arrived in Buenos Aires for some very welcome sunshine and warm weather! We were also joined by a special guest, Jake (Em’s brother), who will be travelling with us for the next three weeks!

On our first day in Buenos Aires we did a walking tour of La Boca neighbourhood. We saw a lot of street art, colourful building throughout the neighbourhood, and the home stadium of the Boca Junior soccer team! There was a lot of art (paintings and statues) dedicated to players like Messi and Maradona.

We spent a day exploring the neighbourhood of Palermo. We went to Buenos Aires Ecoparque, an abandoned zoo which has re- opened as an animal rescue centre. We also visited the nearby Japanese gardens.

After a whole holiday with incredible luck with the weather, we had a rainy day while in Buenos Aires! We spent the day exploring El Ateneo Grand Splendid bookstore (housed in an old theatre) and MALBA museum of modern art. That night the weather thankfully improved in time for our dinner, a seven course traditional Argentinian barbecue held on a rooftop terrace!

On Sundays the San Telmo market is held in the San Telmo neighbourhood where we were staying. We spent the day exploring the outdoor markets which span over ten blocks, as well as the indoor food market which is a permanent fixture and opens every day.

On our final day in Buenos Aires we had some free time before flying out. We visited the Recoleta Cemetery, a huge cemetery spanning 14 acres in central Buenos Aires. It feels like a whole town, with many “streets” lined with very intricate mausoleums/tombs.

From Buenos Aires we fly north to Iguazu Falls!
