Cusco & The Journey To Puno

We spent some time in Cusco as a base to explore the surrounding valleys/archaeological sites, and to acclimatise for our Salkantay Trek!

At Mirador San Blas, looking out over Cusco

Our time in Cusco was largely spent acclimatising and getting organised for our Salkantay trek! We did, however, spend some time enjoying the city and exploring! We did a walking tour explaining the history of Cusco, including areas of Cusco with buildings dating back to Incan times. We also enjoyed some delicious food, caught up with some friends we met in Ecuador and experienced a healthy amount of rain!

After Cusco we took the train to Puno, a town near the Bolivian border and on Lake Titicaca. The train was beautiful, with amazing views of the Andes and entertainment on board! There was a live band, traditional dancers and even a 3 course lunch and a bar! Unfortunately, we were a bit under the weather and didn’t take advantage of these last perks as much as we typically would!

Enjoying the live band in the bar carriage!

After the train we spend one final night in Peru before crossing the border into Bolivia!
